Diary Entry
Tue, 16th June, 1776
Mother went to Mrs McPhern's cabin today, it was my job to cook dinner but the fire went out while I was shelling the peas and talking to Andy while he plucked the feathers off the turkey he had killed. I was so angry at myself and embarrassed I couldn't believe I had let that happen. I held the baby in one arm and the big pot in the other and tried to walk to Aunt Mary's cabin to get some more fire. I was too tired and had to stop and sit on a tree stump to rest when Mr Scott arrived and saved me. He lit the fire for me and promised he wouldn't tell as long as he could have dinner with us.

I hate my brother because he read my diary when I was trying to write in it. It's just not fair, we never go to any tea parties here and I don't have anyone to speak to. I was feeling really lonely because I was missing Margaret, I put on my beautiful dress and tried on my shoes but they wouldn't fit. I was so sad. I knew I wasn't supposed to, but I so wanted to have a tea party with Samanthie. I took Mother's pretty china plates with the lovely lavender design and pretended I was back in Gettysburg. I was just about to get some more leaves that were my pretend biscuits when Mother found me. I was so scared, I thought I would be in so much trouble but instead of being angry she wanted a cup of tea too.

It just wasn't my day today. Everything went wrong. I cut my finger, I ripped my dress, I spilt water all over me and every time I picked up the baby he cried. Mother tried to cheer me up and sent me to pick wild grapes. I heard hoof beets and thought it was the Ivy gang and was terrified but instead it turned out to be none other than General Washington who came for tea. He bought wonderful news that Margaret is coming to visit in the spring and a letter from her.

Character Portrait Arthur Scott
Arthur Scott had a tall thin body and straight, chestnut, coloured hair and lots of freckles that stretched over his nose. He was a very friendly and happy man, nice and kind and everybody liked him. He loved to sing when he rode his horse and was very popular, which was why Ann liked him so much. Andy was jealous of him because he was in love with her and didn't like Arther around.
