American History Samuel and Mikaela

Benjamin Franklin

One day, Benjamin Franklin was cooking a turkey for his friends, using the power of electricity  but because of his carelessness while showing off, he got a shock through his arm and was knocked out.

"What I meant to kill was a turkey", "instead I almost killed a goose"  he laughed after he came to.

He was wanting to show how electricity could be used to help people. All of his inventions were designed to help people. He invented a stove, bifocals, the lightning rod, an automatic lock, a step ladder chair and a stove with a chimney.

He improved the fire department, invented a circulating  library, made the post office faster and more efficient, made lights for the street at nights, made a garbage collection and deepened the rivers to help stop flooding..

He read lots of books and tried out lots of the ideas he read about. He was born on January 17th, 1706 in Boston on Milk St. He was the tenth and last son born to a soap and candle maker. He became a printer apprentice at the age of 12 to his brother James.but ran away to Philadelphia on October 1723.He started up his own printing shop and married Debbie Read when he was 24 in 1730. He published an almanac called 'Poor Richard's Almanack' full of funny jokes and and sayings along with interesting and useful information. He sold 10,000 copies and became very rich and well known.

He convinced France to fight against England and help the Americans win the war of independence. He helped write the Declaration of Independence, the Peace Treaty between England and the American colonists, and the Constitution of the United States.

Benjamin Franklin invented lots of things we still use today and helped win the war of Independence for the colonists in American and helped write lots of important documents for the Government.
